Abstract

Kham cam son trang is a decoction of Bui Van Ngoi, and has been used to treat colitis since the 1950s. Kham cam son trang decoction includes 3 species of plants: Dalbergia tsoi Merr. & Chun, Paederia lanuginosa Wall and Curcuma longa L. Research on the biological activity of ethanol extract aims to conserve and develop the Kham cam son trang decoction. Research results show that ethanol extract contains biologically active compounds polyphenol, tannin and coumarin. Ethanol extract (200 mg/mL) showed resistance to S.aureu, P. aeruginosa and  E. coli with antibacterial circle diameters of 3.25 mm, 19.75 mm, 25.25 mm, respectively. At 100 µg/mL ethanol extract reduces DPPH free radicals reaching 88.97% with SC50 at 25.17 µg/mL. Ethanol extract showed cytotoxicity on A549 (lung cancer), LNCaP (prostate cancer), MCF-7 (breast cancer), and HepG2 (liver cancer) cell lines with IC50 values respectively reaching 64.04 µg/mL, 65.72 µg/mL, 75.49 µg/mL, 87.65 µg/mL. Research results show that the Kham cam son trang decoction has a potential colitis remedy and can be developed into a convenient form of medicine for use and higher treatment effectiveness.
