Abstract

ChatGPT and other large language models (LLMs) are increasingly being recognized for their potential applications in medical education. This study aims to examine the use of the LLMs - ChatGPT and associated factors among students at Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University. This cross-sectional study utilized a combination of focused group discussion and self-administered questionnaire conducted with the stratified random sampling in 1,101 students from November 2023 to January 2024. In this study, 75.4% of students have heard of ChatGPT, with 25.4% having been actively using it. Over 70% of respondents agreed that ChatGPT should merely serve as a supplementary learning tool. There was a statistically significant correlation between the use of ChatGPT and various demographic factors such as age, gender, health literacy, and levels of anxiety (p < 0.05). In conclusion, ChatGPT emerges as a widely use tool for medical education, having potential to revolutionize medical education. The development of curricula focusing on health and e-health literacy is recommended to equip students with the necessary skills for safely and efficiently using ChatGPT and other LLMs.
