Abstract

The estimation of forest biomass and carbon stocks based on remote sensing data and GIS technology allows to quantify them very quickly with high accuracy (89.5%). As a result, the forest status map was constructed at 89.5% of accuracy with Unsupervised Classification in combination with NDVI using Sentinel 2A (10 m x 10 m). The results have showed that the biomass of single pine forest was estimated with the range of 2089.9 ÷ 6168.6 tons ha-1, 1044.9 ÷ 3084.3 tons ha-1 for carbon stocks from field-based plot measurement and remote sensing data. With high biomass and carbon stocks estimated, the commercial values of pine forest will bring the great benefits to allocated forest households and laborers. This is a foundation for implementation of Payments for Forest Environmental Services in Tam Dao district.
