Abstract


This study aims to evaluate pest insects, plant diseases, and natural enemies on buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum) in Lao Cai, Ha Giang, and Cao Bang. Field surveys were conducted at representative sites using a cross-diagonal sampling method with five points per plot. The results recorded six pest species, with caterpillars being the most prevalent, primarily damaging young leaves and stems at low densities. Ants, beetles, and thrips caused negligible damage. Regarding plant diseases, five main types were identified: root rot, powdery mildew, downy mildew, rust, and leaf blight. Natural enemies, including four species, such as ladybugs, parasitic flies, and yellow ants, played a crucial role in pest control. This study contributes to sustainable pest management strategies by promoting the conservation of natural enemies, improving cultivation practices, and regular monitoring to minimize pest and disease impact while enhancing crop yield and quality under traditional farming systems.
