Abstract


“Separable verbs” in Chinese is a typical grammatical phenomenon, widely used, and appears frequently in daily communication. Therefore, when learning and using this grammatical phenomenon, learners cannot avoid making mistakes and it becomes a difficult grammar point. The article is based on the theory of errors of previous researchers, combined with the source of data which is the survey results of 200 first-year students majoring in Chinese language at the School of Foreign Languages - Thai Nguyen University, conducting statistics, classification, and analysis of errors, finding the causes of errors and proposing solutions to overcome them. The survey results show that first-year students majoring in Chinese language often make four types of errors when using the separable verbs in Chinese, including redundant errors, missing errors, incorrect positions, and incorrect usage errors. The main causes of errors are the interference of the mother tongue, the difficulty of the target language, and inappropriate learning methods. Thereby, we propose practical solutions that are appropriate to the learners’ level.
