Abstract

Phu Quy island district is located in the South Central marine region of Vietnam. This paper presents the results of analyzing and evaluating positional resources and proposed efficient use solutions of these resources of Phu Quy island district. Field survey and analytical methods are the main research methods are applied in this paper. Thanks to its geographical location, the shape of the islands and the isolated distribution position on the sea, Phu Quy possesses great values of its position resources. Firstly, it is of great geopolitical value due to the interests of expanding national sovereignty on the sea, the position of outposts to protect territorial waters, the exclusive economic zones, and international integration. Secondly, Phu Quy holds geo-economy advantages in offshore fishing, fishing logistics development, seafood processing, and services for oil and gas exploration and exploitation, maritime search and rescue, as well as activities in providing shelter for ships. Last but not least, it is noteworthy to mention Phu Quy’s natural geographical value with favorable conditions for developing eco-tourism, resort as well as marine biodiversity conservation.
