Hoạt động buôn bán hàng rong, vỉa hè trong khu phố cổ Hội An đã có từ rất lâu và phát triển cho đến bây giờ như một sản phẩm văn hóa truyền thống của Hội An. Bên cạnh những lợi ích đem lại về kinh tế - xã hội, hoạt động này cũng còn tồn tại một số hạn chế. Do đó, nghiên cứu nhằm xác định hình ảnh hàng rong, hàng vỉa hè qua cảm nhận của du khách để hỗ trợ cho công tác quản lý cũng như quảng bá hình ảnh du lịch Hội An. Phương pháp định tính được sử dụng kết hợp với phương pháp định lượng. Kết quả phỏng vấn sâu 68 du khách và khảo sát bằng bảng câu hỏi có cấu trúc 320 du khách cho thấy: (1) hàng rong, hàng vỉa hè đã để lại ấn tượng tốt đẹp trong lòng du khách, đặc biệt là hình ảnh con người và ẩm thực Hội An; (2) vệ sinh môi trường và giao thông là hai tồn tại lớn cần được giải quyết. Trên cơ cở đó, nghiên cứu cũng đề xuất một số gợi ý đối với hoạt động buôn bán hàng rong, hàng vỉa hè ở Hội An.
