Abstract

This study was conducted to describe the current status of contraceptive use among third-year medical students at Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2023 through interview with a set of questions. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 711 third-year students from July 2023 to January 2024. This study uses a pre-designed set of questions. The students were allowed to sit in their seats, ensuring a distance so that they did not know the results of the person next to them and they filled in their own answers on the interview form. The information filled in by students is guaranteed to be confidential. The use of contraceptives among third-year students at Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy is not frequent. 26.4% of students have ever had sex, of which 72.9% used contraception for the first time and 62.2% regularly used contraception. Condoms were the most frequently used contraceptive method (71.8%). There is a relationship between knowledge with the frequency of contraceptive use with p < 0.05. It is necessary to strengthen health education communication interventions for students.
