Abstract

Nutrition in the first years of life is especially important because it affects health, intelligence and disease in adulthood. The nutritional status of children in mountainous provinces and disadvantaged areas always needs attention. With the goal of evaluating the nutritional status of children 24-59 months old at preschools in Vo Nhai district, Thai Nguyen province, we conducted research on a total of 1255 research subjects. Using the cross-sectional descriptive method, we obtain the following results: The prevalence of underweight was 11.2%, with boys at 12.0% and girls at 10.4%. The prevalence of stunting was 15.8%, with boys at 16.5% and girls at 15.0%. The prevalence of wasting was 4.2%, with boys at 4.4% and girls at 4.1%. The prevalence of overweight and obesity was 1.6%, with boys at 1.9% and girls at 1.2%. The prevalence of malnutrition was higher in boys than in girls for all three forms, but the difference was not statistically significant.
