Abstract

This study aims to describe certain eating habits and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy findings in children over 5 years old with recurrent abdominal pain who are undergoing outpatient treatment at the National Children’s Hospital. The descriptive study was conducted on 159 children at the National Children’s Hospital from September 2023 to June 2024. The study results show that the outcomes of upper gastrointestinal endoscopy were: 11.3% normal and 88.7% with lesions. The common eating habits of the children were: having breakfast 25.8%, snacking 34.6%, drinking fresh milk 59.7%, consuming carbonated soft drinks 6.9%, drinking fruit juice with added sugar 15.7%, eating sweets 71.1%, and consuming processed foods 3.1%. The prevalence of lesions observed through upper gastrointestinal endoscopy was higher in children with irregular breakfast habits, irregular snacking habits, and frequent consumption of sweets.
