Abstract

Descriptive and cross-sectional method were used on 180 newborns treated at the Department of Neonatology - Pediatric Emergency, Thai Nguyen National Hospital from August 2023 to July 2024 to evaluate the predictive value of blood albumin and platelets in treatment prognosis in infants. The results showed that: serum albumin has the potential to predict treatment in newborns with area under the ROC: curve of 0.861, p < 0.001. Analysis between the successful treatment group and the failed treatment group showed that, the cutoff point of blood albumin is 27.9 g/l, sensitivity 73.9% and specificity 92.4%. The mean platelet concentration in the treatment failure group was 172.58 ± 74 G/l. Platelets is a good predict treatment in newborns, with an area under the curve of 0.809, p < 0.001. When combining both serum albumin and platelet concentrations, the prognostic ability is very good for severe conditions in newborns with the area under the ROC curve is 0.897. Thus, both blood albumin and platelet concentrations are valuable in predicting treatment in newborns. Blood albumin and platelet tests should be performed within the first 24 hours of admission to help predict better patient outcomes.
