Abstract

The study aims to describes the clinical and subclinical characteristics of recurrent pneumonia in children from 2 months to 5 years old treated at the Pediatric Center of Thai Nguyen National Hospital in 2023 - 2024. This is a cross-sectional descriptive study of 160 patients from 2 months to 5 years old, who were diagnosed with recurrent pneumonia and treated at The Pediatric Center of Thai Nguyen National Hospital from August 2023 to July 2024. The results showed that: male children account for 60%. The age group from 2 to 12 months had the highest rate (43.8%) and the younger the age, the more severe the pneumonia. The older children tended to have more recurrent episodes of pneumonia than the younger children. Clinical symptoms were diverse, mainly cough, rales in the lungs and rapid breathing with the corresponding rates of 98.1%; 95% and 86.9%. The younger the age group, the higher the rate of fever, wheezing and chest indrawing, the difference was statistically significant with p<0.05. The rates of increased CRP and increased white blood cells were 50.0% and 51.9%; 21.9% of children had decreased HGB. Scattered nodular lesions in both lungs or concentrated in the hilum and next to the heart accounted for the highest rate (54.5%).
