Abstract

This study evaluated the early surgical results in patients diagnosed with differentiated thyroid cancer who underwent lateral neck lymphadenectomy at Thai Nguyen National Hospital. A retrospective study of 65 patients diagnosed with differentiated thyroid cancer with lateral neck dissection was performed at Thai Nguyen National Hospital from February 2022 to May 2024. The results showed that the average age was 48.71 ± 11.26 years old, mainly distributed in the age group of 30-69 years old. The disease is prevalent in women, with a female/male ratio of 12/1. Patients often come to the hospital for health check-ups (58.5%). The average tumor size is 1.48 ± 0.93 (Min-Max:  3 mm - 45mm). The rate of lymph node metastasis is 69.2% (45/65). The most common early complications at 72 hours after surgery are hypocalcemia (52.3%), hoarseness (12.3%), and lymphatic leakage (12.3%). Postoperative results showed that 66.2% of patients achieved average, and 33.8% of patients achieved good results.  There were no cases with poor results. Evaluating the results of thyroid cancer surgery with lateral cervical lymph node dissection is very necessary to improve the treatment effectiveness at the research facility.
