CANINE ECLAMPSIA: CURRENT SITUATION AND THERAPY

Abstract


Eclampsia is the common puerperal metabolism disorder which has a high mortality rate in bitches if patients don’t given properly diagnosis and treatment. The study was performed from 10/2016 to 5/2017, at GAIA Pets Clinic, with the aim of investigating current situation of canine eclampsia and applying of the therapy. The results showed that, dogs diagnosed with eclampsia gained 2.60% (39/1501 dogs), mainly small breed dogs like Toy Poodle (48.72%), Fox (15.38%) and typically happens within 1-4 weeks after whelping. About the age of these dogs, adult dogs (2-4 years old) got 51.28% followed by young dogs (<2 years old; 43.59%). Besides, the study did not find out the connection between litter size and the prevalence of canine eclampsia.
