Abstract


Blood lipids elevation, or high blood cholesterol, is a condition characterized by an elevated level of cholesterol in the serum, leading to various health issues, including cardiovascular diseases. One traditional medical approach to treating high blood lipids involves incorporating lotus leaf into the daily diet. In this study, lotus leaves were harvested and processed into an extraction with a yield of 7.62%, and the alkaloid content in the lotus leaf extraction was found to be 4.96%. In vivo experiments conducted on mice demonstrated that the lotus leaf extraction had a high safety profile and did not significantly impact the growth rate of the mice. Furthermore, when the lotus leaf extraction was administered to groups of obese mice, there was a noticeable reduction in key lipid indicators such as cholesterol, LDL, triglycerides, and HDL. This indicates the effective lipid-lowering capability of the lotus leaf extract. The results highlight the potential of lotus leaf extract as an efficient treatment for elevating blood lipids.
