Abstract

Son Dong district, located in Bac Giang province, is characterized by its rich ecosystems and significant nature reserves, such as the Khe Ro nature reserve. However, socio-economic development has given rise to environmental challenges and exacerbated the impacts of climate change. Addressing these issues is critical to ensuring sustainable development in the region. This study evaluates the effectiveness of environmental protection efforts in Son Dong district, Bac Giang province, in 2024 through the application of SWOT analysis. The study highlights the district's achievements in solid waste management, biodiversity conservation, and pollution control, while identifying persistent challenges, including limited financial resources, inadequate wastewater treatment infrastructure, and low levels of public awareness. The analysis reveals that Son Dong district has achieved considerable progress in implementing environmental policies, especially in waste collection and treatment, however, it continues to grapple with related issues, such as climate change. Based on the SWOT analysis, the study proposes strategic solutions to strengthen environmental protection, including enhancements to the waste management system, increased efforts to raise public awareness, and the adoption of advanced technology. The findings offer valuable insights for local policymakers and contribute to the broader goal of sustainable environmental management in rural areas of Vietnam.
