Abstract

Many recent studies have shown that the level of sperm DNA fragmentation is higher in male infertility than in normal people and there is a correlation between sperm deformity and sperm DNA fragmentation, but the factor to predict the degree of sperm fragmentation is not the sperm shapeand the normal sperm can still carry fragmented DNA. In this study, the authors developed a procedure to determine the fragmentation of sperm DNA by SCSA method and evaluate the correlation between semen index and degree of sperm DNA fragmentation. Our results suggests that sperm DNA fragmentation index is closely associated with sperm mobility and sperm viability. On the other hand, at a pH <7.2, the fractionation level is significantly higher than that of the group with a pH ≥ 7.2. There is no difference in the degree of sperm fragmentation by age and sperm density.
