Abstract
The results showed that the main source of Domestic Solid Waste (DSW) in Dien Bien district is from households. The averaged coefficent of DSW is 0.488 kg person/day, the average amount about 56.499 tons/day, the main compound of DSW is organic waste (about 70%). The amount of DSW is forecasted to be 59.937 kg/day in 2025 and 61.393 kg/day in 2030. The amount of DSW will increase by 1.07 times in 2025 and 1.09 times in 2030 compared to 2017. There are some shortcomings for management of DSW such as: old collection equipment; labor protection tools are insufficient; there are only 70 garbage collection points in 12 communes, and 13 outside communes have no yet garbage gathering place, garbage has not been collected and treated. Collection of environmental protection fees for DSW has not been implemented. The DSW is not classified at source and there is not enought mechanism. In order to better manage of the DSW in the study area, it is necessary to synchronously apply a number of solutions such as: policy, economic, processing technology solutions and educational communication solutions.
