Abstract

The article focuses on studying the current status of plastic waste generation by students of the University of Science, along with an assessment of students' awareness in the school about reducing plastic waste. The author uses methods of information collection, actual survey and statistical methods of information processing. The author surveyed 188 students. Focusing on a group of 4 students majoring in Law, Tourism, Management Science, and Environmental & Resource Management. As a result, the plastic waste generated by students every day is mainly: Drinking water bottles, plastic bags, styrofoam boxes, breadcrumbs, cups & straws. A percentige of 95.7% of the students of the Faculty of Natural Resources & Environment have the correct perception of the decomposition time of plastic bags. Most of the students are aware of the harmful effects of plastic waste on the environment such as: biodiversity, landscape degradation, sewer blockages... The 3rd and 4th year students took more active actions to reduce plastic waste than the 1st and 2nd year students when they were learned about Environment & Sustainable Development. Such actions as: bring a personal water bottle, reduce at least 1 plastic bag/day.
