JOB SATISFACTION AND COMMITMENT OF LECTURERS IN SELECTED PUBLIC AND PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES IN HO CHI MINH CITY

Abstract


Researches in the field satisfaction and commitment are abundant wordwide, however, this field is not available in various universities in Ho Chi Minh City. Thus, the main purpose of this paper was to identify the factors affecting job satisfaction and their commitment as well as the practical basis  fo administrative  strategic orientation among university lecturers in Ho Chi Minh City.  By conducting a survey of 500 valid respondents, the test results showed that seven factors: salary, promotion, supervision, colleagues, work itself, professional development, and fringe benefits had positive relationships with lecturers’ job satisfaction. Of which, Professional development was the element that had the strongest influence on job satisfaction, followed by Salary, Fringe Benefits, Colleague, Supervision, Promotion and the factor with the smallest influence is Work itself. There was, however, no difference between the level of job satisfaction of the respondents based on different marital status and types of university. In addition, there was significant difference in job satisfaction level of respondents based on gender, age, teaching experience, educational level. The research results will help universities in orienting strategic solutions for meeting the needs of university lecturers, enabling them to be more dedicated and committed to the workplace of the universities.
