ASSESSMENT OF TOURISM DEVELOPMENT CAPACITY IN CRAFT VILLAGES IN DA NANG CITY

Abstract


Craft village is one of the significant cultural resources for tourism activities. In Da Nang city, besides natural resources with many values for tourism, the city also has long-standing traditional craft villages such as Non Nuoc stone village, Nam O fish sauce village, Tuy Loan rice paper village, Cam Ne mats village, and Yen Ne weaving village. The article has applied MCA multi-criteria analysis method, Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method and expert method to build a system of criteria and standards to evaluate 04 craft villages including: Nam O fish sauce village, Tuy Loan rice paper village, Cam Ne mats village, and Yen Ne weaving village. The evaluation results show that Nam O fish sauce village is highly favorable, Tuy Loan rice paper village is favorable, Cam Ne mats village is moderately favorable, and Yen Ne weaving village is less favorable for tourism development in Da Nang city. In light of the results of this assessment, the article recommends a number of solutions on policies about developing craft villages into an attractive tourism product, and raising local residents’ awareness, etc... in order to exploit the tourism value of craft villages effectively.
