Abstract


Domestic waste management is an urgent issue in urban areas of Vietnam. Hoang Van Thu ward is a central ward of Thai Nguyen city, with a large population density and a high amount of domestic waste. In 2017, the ward was selected as a pilot ward to implement the Project of classifying domestic waste at source in Thai Nguyen city in the period of 2017 - 2020. The assessment of people's awareness of classification domestic waste at source in Hoang Van Thu ward was carried out to find out the causes of problems in the process of classifying waste at source. This study used method of analysis and synthesis of documents; methods of sociological investigation and mathematical methods. Research results show that: People inHoang Van Thu ward had a good awareness of sorting domestic waste at source; 100% of households were aware of the benefits and ways of sorting waste, 74.36% households classified the domestic waste at source. In order to improve the efficiency of waste separation at source, the propaganda to mobilize people to separate garbage should be strengthened; there should be a regime to promptly encourage residential groups to do well, and a movement to build a model of "Green Town Group".
