Abstract

The genus Polygala L. belongs to the family Polygalaceae with about 300 species distributed worldwide. In Vietnam, it's recorded with 24 species and 4 varieties. There are 13 species that have been used as medicine. During investigation in May 2023 in Lac Duong district, Lam Dong province, the research team discovered a species belonging to the genus Polygala L.. It’s distributed under the Pinus kesiya forest and has characteristics such as: Annual to perennial herbs, green; leaf blade ovate with adaxial surface leaves green, abaxial surface leaves purple; petals white to purple. After comparing the collected specimen and related documents, it was confirmed that it was a Polygala japonica Houtt. In this research, we have described the morphological and anatomical characteristics of roots, stems and leaves of the mentioned species accompanied by the photographs of Polygala japonica Houtt. This result contributes to identification to avoid confusion with other species and standardization of medicinal herbs.
