Abstract

In Lang Son, particularly in Dinh Lap district, the Then ritual of the Tay and Nung people is still regularly practiced and plays an important role in life, in which the Khai Buon - full month Then ritual cannot be ignored. This study aims to learn about the preparation process, implementation process and the value of the Khai Buon ritual. To achieve that purpose, we conducted fieldwork, observed the actual preparation and implementation process, collected songs, translated meanings, and interviewed artisans. Research results show that the full month ritual was carefully prepared, the offerings were fully arranged with specific items suitable for the purpose of the ritual. That spiritual belief can be reflected through the concept of the magical world of the Muong with mythical locations and vast natural space. Through the ceremony, the Tay and Nung people show their love for the young members of their family, which is also a good humanistic tradition in life.
