Abstract

This study aims to describe clinical, paraclinical characteristics anemia among children from 2 months to 5 years. Cross sectional study of 130 children with anemia were treated in Thai Nguyen National hospital from 1 August 2022 to 31 January 2023. 60.8% were boys, 39.2% were girls, the disease was more common in boys than in girls: 1.54/1. Anemia was more common in the 7 - 24 months group (57.7%) and 25 – 60 months group were 41.5%. 27.7% premature, birthweight <2500g (9.2%) and 20% children were malnutrition. Mild anemia is common (83.1%). The most common clinical symptoms were pale skin and palmar pallor (100%). Subclinical: Hemoglobin (Hb) decreased: 98.15 ± 11.55 g/l, Mean corpuscular Volume (MCV) decreased: 67.13 ± 9.95 fl, Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin decreased 21.57 ± 3.9 pg. Mean corpuscular Hemoglobin Concentration (MCHC) decreased 318 ± 20.15g/l. Red cell Distribution With (RDW) mean is 15.78 ± 2.72%. 78.5% serum iron decreased, 0.8% decrease in serum ferritin. It is necessary to determine the cause of anemia in order to have appropriate treatment for the children.
