Abstract

The study was conducted to describe the level of adherence to antiretroviral (ARV) treatment and identify some related factors among people living with HIV/AIDS in Phung Hiep district, Hau Giang province. Cross-sectional study evaluated 289 patients with HIV/AIDS receiving outpatient ARV treatment from September 2022 to January 2023. The adherence rates of the right dose was 94.5%, right medicine was 97.2%, on time was 95.5%, taking the medicine correctly was 100%, re-examination on time was 78.9%. Patient adherence to ARV treatment was 78.2%. There is an association between non-adherence and smoking (OR=4.65, p<0.001), side effects (OR=6.11, p<0.001), number of ARV treatment counseling sessions (p<0.001) and ARV treatment duration (p<0.001). The adherence rate to ARV treatment is relatively high, most people with HIV take the right dose. The ARV treatment programs should focus on providing information about ARV treatment through ARV counseling sessions and medical examinations, and encouraging patients to quit smoking to optimize treatment adherence.
