Abstract

Growth and timber reserves are criteria that are always of primary concern of forest growers. This study was conducted to evaluate the growth and timber reserves of 7-year-old Acacia hybrid BV10 planted in Quy Chau district, Nghe An province. Nine standard plots (OTC) 500 m2 were established at three positions: base, flank, and top (3 OTC per plot) to measure growth characteristics. Research results showed that the average values of diameter at breast height and crown height were 12.14 cm and 11.70 m, respectively. Average timber reserves and annual timber production were 116 m3/ha and 16.60 m3/ha/year, respectively. Diameter at breast height tended to decrease with height of planting location, on the contrary, planting location had no effect on tree height of Acacia hybrid BV10. The value of tree height explained about 48% of the wood reserve value of Acacia hybrid BV10, while the diameter at breast height played a more important role in wood reserve, contributing about 68% to the wood reserve.
