Abstract

With characteristics of topography, geology and climate, Bac Ha district, Lao Cai province has rich and diverse natural vegetation, including many precious medicinal species, especially Panax notoginseng. This study used the investigation and survey methods to determine the growth characteristics of Panax notoginseng. Research results show that Panax notoginseng in Bac Ha district has a smaller size than the Panax notoginseng from China and only produces one bud per year and has a small distribution area, concentrated in areas with altitudes of about 800 m -1200 m, mostly concentrated in Nam Mon and Ta Van Chu communes, Bac Ha district. Nevertheless, the results of assessing the distribution of Panax notoginseng on the basis of applying remote sensing digital technology to interpret satellite images Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 integrating GIS technology show that Bac Ha district has potential development of Panax notoginseng trees with an area of about 6018.7 hectares.
