Abstract

Knema globularia (Lam.) Warb. is belonging to the Myristicaceae family and distributed mainly in Southeast Asia. This paper provides morphological descriptions, information on habitat, phenology, distribution, and color illustrations for all studied species. Besides, the essential oils were extracted from the leaves and peels of this species by hydro distillation. The isolated essential oil was analyzed by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). The yields of essential oils were 0.07% from leaves and 0.05% from peels. A total of fifty-six compounds were identified, presenting 98.62% from leaves oil, and 98.91% from peels oil. β-Caryophyllene (76.06%), and α-Caryophyllene (10.56%) were the highest compositions found in the leaves. Meanwhile, the constituents of peel oils were different from the leaves, trans-β-Ocimene (45.19%), β-Caryophyllene (18.45%), α-Pinene (5.35%), β-Pinene (4.4%) where the major component was found.
