Abstract


The study conducted an in-depth survey and interview with 139 households with the jump k = 4, synthesizing environmental monitoring data for 05 consecutive years (2015 - 2019) with the criteria: temperature, rainfall and phenomena. unusual weather. From there, assess the changes and impacts of climate change on wet rice production in Bac Ha district, Lao Cai province. Research results show that: In 05 years, the average temperature in Bac Ha district tends to increase, ranging from 19.1oC – 19.5oC; changes in temperature fluctuate erratically; The number of extremely cold and drought days tends to increase; Annual average rainfall changes erratically; Rainfall in the rainy season tends to increase; On the contrary, the rainfall in the dry season tends to decrease; The unusual weather phenomena take place with increasing frequency and intensity over the years. Climate change directly affects the wet rice production here, droughts, storms, extreme cold, damaging cold,... make plants lack irrigation water, plants grow slowly, even die and the soil is at risk of erosion. In response to these negative impacts, local people have used indigenous knowledge, including: local wet rice varieties, some traditional farming techniques, and traditional knowledge about the seasons, cultivating and forecasting unfavorable weather,...
