Abstract

Due to the strategic location of their residence, ethnic groups in the northern border area always play an important role in the struggle against foreign invaders. Therefore, the Vietnamese feudal dynasties set out a number of positive policies and measures for ethnic minorities. With the use of historical and logical methods, combined with analytical and synthetic methods, this paper studied deeply on ethnic policy of the Ly – Tran dynasties through different historical times. Research results shows that the Ly - Tran dynasties had effectively implemented "Nhu Vien" policy, "Cuong" policy or a combination of "Nhu and Cuong" policy towards ethnic minorities in the northern border region. The research results cannot only bring practically significant value to the defense of national independence in the era of industrialization, modernization and international integration of the country, but also have practically educational significance, especially for the children of ethnic minorities today.
