Abstract


Autonomous learning is regarded as one of the most important factors in improving the quality of learning in credit-based system. Therefore, organizing good autonomous activities for the students is one of the main teacher’s tasks. The project method is a form of teaching which puts a special emphasis on learner’s autonomy. This article provides an insight into the literature of autonomy and project method, and presents the result of a case study carried out in an ESP class at Hoa Lu University. The findings from the qualitative research reveal that the project work is highly effective in promoting students’ autonomy. From theory to practice, the article suggests a pedagogic possibility for teachers to apply project work in their language teaching.
