Abstract

α,β-unsaturated ketones with many valuable activities have been interested in many scientists around the world. In this paper, the synthesis of some new α,β-unsaturated ketones from N-methylaniline is reported. The 3-acetyl-4-hydroxy-1-methylquinolin-2-(1H)-on intermediator was synthesized by the N-methylaniline ring forming reaction with diethylmalonate. The product was then modified by condensing with aromatic aldehydes to form a series of new α,β-unsaturated ketones (5 compounds). The structure of these products was confirmed by IR and NMR spectroscopy methods.

Keywords
