A SURVEY ON VIETNAMESE LANGUAGE TEACHING RESOURCES IN VIETNAM

Abstract


The prime objective of this article is to propose recommendations to improve the quality of Vietnamese language textbooks designed to teach foreigners. To achieve the goal, this article aims to (1) do collective survey, do comprehensive analysis of the strengths and the weaknesses of the existing Vietnamese language textbook designed to teach foreigners in Vietnam; and (2) highlight what should be taken into attentive consideration when designing standardized and unified textbooks, which fulfills the criteria in the standardized European language proficiency framework. This will effectively assist the teaching of Vietnamese language to foreign students. Specifically, 64 Vietnamese language textbooks in use in Vietnam were reviewed and analyzed. Both teachers and learners were interviewed in regards to their judgments of the textbooks which are popularly used now in Vietnam using the questionnaire (anket). The findings shown in this article are comprehensive reviews of the strengths and weaknesses during the design of Vietnamese language textbooks for foreign students in Vietnam over the course of time.
