Abstract

This study was conducted to analyze factors influencing the decision of crop transition of rural households in Ninh Son district, Ninh Thuan province. The data was collected from the survey of 110 rural households in the study area. The results revealed that local authorities took the initial in the transition of inefficient crops and several production models was introduced but the result of crop transition was slow. The difficulties in promoting crop transition were high investment costs, small and fragmented production area, farmers’ familarity with traditional rice production. By applying Binary Logistic Regression, the factors that were statistically significant in influencing rural households’ decision of crops transition were: Distance from home to market/consumption place, Education level of main labors, Training participation, Number of dependents in household, Number of labors in family and ratio of non-agricultural revenue. This study proposed three solutions for the promotion of crop transition in Ninh Son district: enhancing plans for product consumtion, increasing training and application of science and techonology, and appropriately and efficiently use of human resources.
