Abstract

Nowadays, water pollution is becoming more and more serious because food production facilities have not focused on treating wastewater before discharging it into the environment. The study of bacterial strains capable of decomposing organic compounds in wastewater is an issue that needs to be focused. Twenty-two strains bacteria were isolated from vermicelli production wastewater at Long Tuyen and Long Hoa commune (Can Tho City). The isolates were evaluated for their starch-degrading ability by diffusion method on agar wells and the reducing sugars produced by the method of Dinitrosalysilic Acid were investigated. The results showed that there were three strains of bacteria B2, B12 and T9 with strong starch degradation ability and maintained up to 6 days. Bacterial strain T9 has the ability to decompose starch with the highest reducing sugar content, ranging from 1.70 to 4.64 mg/mL from 2 days to 8 days. The pH value in the culture medium supplemented soluble starch tended to be alkaline when treated by the above three strains of bacteria. In particular, cells count of T9 strain still maintaied after 8 days of shaking culture (5,46 logCFU/mL) at room temperature. The strain T9 was sequenced with the 16S rRNA gene with 100% similarity with the Chryseobacterium daecheongense strain.
