Abstract

This study aimed to determine the incidence and some risk factors for retinopathy of premature babies at the Paediatric Center- Bach Mai Hospital 2022-2023. The cross-sectional descriptive methodology incorporates case-control studies of 340 premature infants with a birth weight of ≤ 1500 g and/or gestational age at birth ≤ 30 weeks or a weight of 1500 g to 2000 g and/or a gestational age of >30 weeks, with additional risk factors for respiratory failure, anemia, infection... screened and diagnosed retinopathy by an Ophthalmologist at Pediatric Center - Bach Mai Hospital from 07/2022 to 07/2023.  These patients are similar in gender, gestational age, and date of admission. Results showed that the incidence of ROP in premature infants was 27.9%, birth weight <1000g (66.7%), and mainly at gestational age at birth 25-27 (64.3%). The study found that the prevalence of ROP in premature infants was 27.9%. A statistically significant association was found between the incidence of ROP and low gestational age, low birth weight, sepsis, and duration of prolonged oxygen dependence.
